I never cease to be surprised about peoples’ short term thinking and acting! For instance, in a government election if people are asked who they’re going to vote for and then get the follow-up question; “Why?” the answer will be close to one hundred percent: “Because it’s best for me!”
I believe very strongly that this is absolutely the worst way of thinking. If voting that way really will get the best for you (and like so much else this is a very egotistic way of thinking) then why not vote for what´s best for me too? If you vote for the best solution for the whole country, in the long term it will also be the best for you. Your situation right now may be quite different within a year or even a few months time. For example, today when voting you might be unemployed but in a few months you might acquire a great new job!
Stop voting in the short time for egotistic benefits which will never, ever, achieve anything for anyone – including for you. It’s the long term that really counts and getting benefits for many people. Don’t you think it’s better to have a good life in the longer term than in the short term?
Egotistic, short term thinking is common for so much more than an election. Are you one of those people who doesn’t see any further than their nose?

Please think this through:
In China there’s a Bamboo that grows in an extraordinary way. The Bamboo needs to be very carefully nursed for its first five years; the ground needs to be fertilized and watered every other day – even if you can’t see any sign of life at all. If you’ve done all of this then in five years time you will start to see the Bamboo coming up through the ground, and within a few weeks it will grow to a height of approximately 4-5 meters!
I have a question: Has the Bamboo been growing for a few weeks or five years?
This is like life; often you struggle towards your goals without seeing any results, but when you’ve struggled for long enough, all of a sudden the goal reveals itself to you. Your endurance has been paid back to you. The answer to the question by the way is ‘five years’. If this wasn’t your answer I suggest you start wondering when in your life you’ve give up a dream because you didn’t have the endurance to wait for it. Remember that a dream is always standing in front of you and trying to get your attention.

At first sight this may seem obvious, but if you really think about it – is it always like this? Do you always focus on the important things or do unimportant things get much more focus?
Recently I was told that I had high blood pressure and blood fat levels. To me, and I presume to most of us getting this news, it became a much higher priority. This combination of high blood pressure and blood fats increases the risk of getting heart disease, and that to me is very important because my father died of a heart attack at 44 years old! Consequently, certain things suddenly became more important than others and demanded a greater level of focus in order to deal with them.
These high levels made me re-focus from what I was currently doing and to start tackling the causes. I decided to change my eating habits and to start exercising (mainly jogging). One of my goals was to reduce my weight from 105 kg down to 90 kg and to keep it like that. This became quite easy for me now I had my great ‘why?’ and it created in me a great will to do it.
You need a great ‘why?’ as through it will come motivation – and that’s what creates the action necessary to overcome all the obstacles that the start-up process is filled with. Many people who have started to decrease their weight have believed they had the will to do it, but in the end they failed because they didn´t have the ‘why?’
The need to do the important things made me re-prioritise some of the less important things in order to do the most important thing – which for me was to exercise.

Those people who fully go for their dreams and see them fulfilled, are without exception prepared to change their normal behavior pattern and to challenge this great event we all – more or less – participate in (which we call life!) They’ve decided to really live it rather than just going through it; they’re not satisfied to have an ordinary life so they’re searching for greater challenges.
Many of us don’t understand them, so a common question to them is; “Why are you not just satisfied with what you already have?” (This kind of question more often than not comes from people close to them, like family and friends.) But these people have understood the need to take advantage of the possibilities that life always provides us with, not just those they have at the moment.
They consider that everything they must overcome to achieve what they want is worth it in order to fulfill their dreams – which very often are beyond “normal” visions of dreams. Universe, the higher intellect, energy, God or whatever you wish to call it – only pays you in direct proportion to what you are worth.
Are you living your dream? If not – why not?

If you don’t plan your life – you’re planning to fail!
It’s critically important that you have a game plan for your life because without it, none of your dreams will come true. In fact it’s most likely that you won’t have any dreams at all.
Without a plan for your life it’s also very likely that you’ll end up in somebody else’s plan. Just think about this for a moment; shouldn’t the life plan you’ve created for yourself be the most important thing for you, rather than slopping around in somebody else’s life plan without any possibility of influencing the outcome?
Those of us who live the life we want have, with few exceptions, had a plan for it. If we look at how many of us that might be, I’m convinced we’re in a great minority. In other words, few of us live the life we really want!
Why would you want to be among the majority? It’s only necessary for you to sit down and start to figure out your dreams in both the short and the long term, then create a game plan to get there. Only you can make your plan and, after all, shouldn’t you be living the life you really want to live?
Life is for living and for being honest with yourself! Do you prefer to live your own life or someone else’s?

It’s a tremendous feeling when you try to achieve something special that requires that little extra effort; it makes it all worthwhile!’
If you want to achieve something that’s really important and of value to YOU, who cares how long it takes? Everything is possible to achieve and while you may have to go through a lot to get there, it’s worth it in the end.
Most people give up when the going gets tough, but you don’t need any guarantees that it will be achieved as long as you feel that the outcome is worth it. Just doing it and living with it has its own value and power.
When you feel that it´s worth it, when you do something in combination with faith, passion, endurance and focus, you just can’t fail!

A while ago I watched a video on YouTube. It was about a man who was born with no arms or legs. He ‘worked’ at the Tivoli and his ‘job’ was to just sit while people paid money to come and look at him!
One day a circus arrived in the city and the manager decided to visit the Tivoli. Very soon he found himself standing in front of the tent where the man without arms and legs was sitting. He entered and saw the man, and he instantly understood that this man was something that most of us aren’t. He was a great human being!
I will not pursue this story but just say that the point was this:
Whoever you are and however you look on the outside, there’s always a solution inside of you for the problems you encounter. It’s up to you, and you alone, to have the courage and the will to address them – EVERYONE is able.
Finally, it was the circus manager who treated the man with respect rather than making fun of him that started this man growing into that great human being that he was.

I believe that a problem doesn’t necessarily need to be something horrible and depressing. How can I say this? Well, if you think about it, a problem is just something that exists before the solution is found. It means that – if you allow it – you can get yourself into a better situation when you resolve the issue.
So many big events, changes and breakthroughs have started because a problem occurred. Under these circumstances, if it’s treated as just something that happens before the solution is found and effort is put into resolving it, the end result is often much better than before the problem occurred. As an example, many people who’ve lost their work are back in the situation they were in before choosing that job. This means they can re-think what they want to do and even maybe start up something they have always dreamed about. The ‘problem’ has therefore turned out to be a positive thing!
There are many more situations like this, so please try to identify some situations in your own life where this has happened, or situations where it could happen

I had a medical check in mid-May and among other things they did several blood tests, took my blood pressure and did an ECG. About ten days after that I had an appointment to meet the doctor and get the results. When I had these tests I found that my blood pressure was high at 185/95 (should be around 135/70), my weight to height was 105kg (should be around 90-92kg) and there was sugar in my urine. I wasn’t so much shocked as surprised by this, and I went away with very mixed feelings!
After a few hours I made the decision that from now on there had to be some changes; in future I will take more care of my body’s well-being and that will take care of the whole of me. I was very motivated.
I started to exercise at least 4-5 times a week, three of them by jogging and the rest by cycling or power walking. I changed my diet to the GI method and reduced the size of each portion I ate. My weight goal for the end of this summer is 90kg. I discontinued drinking wine during the middle of the week, including with my evening meal.
Ten days later when I met the doctor my weight had decreased by 3 kg to 102kg. Now I had to get the results from my blood tests. My blood fats were VERY high – my triglyceride was so high that many of the blood fat measurements were impossible to make. The good thing was that there was no high level of sugar in the blood test this time and my blood pressure had decreased to 159/85 which, although still too high showed I had made progress. This was probably the combined result of a big reduction of salt in my food and my weight loss.
My doctor told me I needed to have medicine to reduce my blood fats and my blood pressure. I asked if I could do it without medicine, by just continuing to change my way of living. The doctor said NO! He added that it’s absolutely impossible to do and that I should not forget that my father died of a heart attack at the age of 44! It was at that very moment I decided to do it my way and not take the ‘drug way’ – after all, I’d started the journey already.
I asked the doctor if I was gambling by doing this and he said no – it’s more like Russian roulette! However, he continued by asking how long I needed to continue the fight to get in shape and have new tests. I asked him to give me one and a half months and he agreed. He said I should go back in mid-July and take new blood fat tests, then we’d meet a few days later for the results. This meeting was yesterday.
What was the outcome from this meeting? Well you’ll get the answer on Sunday in my next blog text!

Make it a habit to always do whatever you do with passion! Many of you may now be thinking – how can I do that when I’m sometimes forced to do things I don’t really like – at work, doing gardening, visiting relatives or whatever?
This is the point! You need to try to do things you like and if you don’t like your work – then change it! If you don’t like gardening, change it so you don’t have a garden you need to tend or hire someone to do it for you. If you don’t like to be around your relatives, tell your partner and then try to resolve it somehow!
When this is done you really can do what I said – do everything you do with passion, then you will find that your life will be more valuable.
Do everything with passion
